The most dangerous and most productive times of the week:
Monday is the most dangerous day of the week for workplace accidents. Specifically, it commonly occurs between two to four hours into a shift. This is according to 2013 non fatal workplace accidents data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Monday has been the most injury-prone day of the week in all but two years since 2007.” From the article of Statistical analysis website, FiveThirtyEight, analysed the yearly statistics back to 2007.
The article suggests that it is possible more people work on Mondays, impacting the results. However, it also argues that many public holidays exist on Mondays. Hence, workers are more likely to take a Monday off for a long weekend.
ProChoice further assessed the statistics and found the most common types of injuries or illnesses for both men and women. Included were sprains, strains, tears, soreness and pain. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) accounted for 33 percent of all injury and illness cases in 2013. In fact, labourers and freight workers among the most common industries to incur these types of injuries.
The age group requiring the most time off work due to injury was 45-54 year-olds, with injury occurrence about 10 per cent higher than both 25-34 and 35-44 year-olds. The 45-54 age group also had, on average, longer amounts of time off work with a median of 12 days, compared to eight days in 35-44 year-olds and six days in 25-34 year-olds.
Eight days was the median among all ages. In Australia, neither the Australian Bureau of Statistics, nor Workcover were able to provide data on the days of the week workplace injuries occur, hence the use of US data.
Most dangerous times to drive:
Due to fatigue, 3pm is the deadliest time of day for both drivers and pedestrians according to Fairfax Media. In their 2015 article, it discussed an analysis of 15 years of road fatality data. They also found that Saturday is the most dangerous day of the week to be behind the wheel. This is because there are more people on the roads. Whereas Monday is the safest day to drive, with 62 per cent fewer deaths than on Saturdays.
The article also states that men are three times more likely than women to die in a road-related accident. It claims they are more assertive and more likely to take risks.
Most Productive Times of the Week:
Tuesday has consistently been found to be the most productive day of the week, followed by Monday. Thursday and Friday are the least productive days, according to survey results from US employment agency, Accountemps.
Accountemps further adds that the most productive time of the day has consistently been found to be from 10am to midday. Productivity declines from then until the end of the working day.
